SEATTLE, WA. (Sept. 20, 2007) –- Since its release in 2004, RacerMate's MultiRider indoor race/training concept has
grown at a rapid rate, with 95 centers in the USA alone, and 127 centers worldwide in 10 different
countries. With a relatively small footprint, a MultiRider setup is a feasible expansion to many retailers.
Until this summer, the MultiRider experience has included Road Time Trial, Team Time Trial, and a
coaching mode.
And now RacerMate is cooperating on a simulation of bunch racing with ErgVideo, an independent software
company that has produced an exciting series road racing videos, as well as the software to integrate and
present it in the MultiRider environment.
"Paul Smeulders, the guy behind ErgVideo, is a very experienced software designer and he has developed
his own software package. He's independent, but we cooperate, because his product is of interest to
MultiRider centers, making them more valuable and ultimately this will lead to a greater proliferation of
these centers," says Chuck Wurster, Vice President of RacerMate Inc.
Proliferation of MultiRider centers is precisely what RacerMate needs to continue planning for, and to this
end the Seattle company is catering for the longer term needs of the end users.
"A lot of people are now starting up with 16 units, while our largest customers purchase up to 40 units. To
me this is a clear indicator that people like it, and it is profitable for center managers," explains Wurster.
The three largest MultiRider centers in the USA are Endurance in San Francisco, run by Charlie Livermore,
Cadence in New York run by Brian Walton, and Vision Quest in Chicago, run by Robbie Ventura.
"This suggests that there is a lot of untapped potential in large cities in, say Arizona, Texas, California,
Georgia, New England and the MidWest," says Wurster.
MultiRider was originally created to enable cyclists to race in a group of up to eight riders, while viewing
their respective progress on a big screen. When used at the Athens Twilight Criterium as a method of
seeding the start grid, it drew a huge crowd into the expo the day before the race, and generated a
tremendous pre-race buzz which helped to create a very animated crowd for the main event.
Center managers have perceived a demand among serious racing cyclists for software that lets them train
in this environment too, which RacerMate is pleased to discuss at its Interbike booth.
For those that are looking for the most realistic virtual racing available, and for a manufacturer that has
the ongoing interests of its existing clients high on the agenda, ErgVideo, with the cooperation of
RacerMate, has produced a real video simulation of bunch racing that must be seen to be believed.
