2007 National Mountain Bike Series Kicks Off in Fountain Hills, Arizona on March 30th

NOVA National presented by Bear Naked-Cannondale

Fountain Hills, AZ (March 22, 2007) - On March 30 through April 1 the international mountain bike community will convene at the McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills, AZ for the NOVA National presented by Bear Naked-Cannondale, the first event of the 2007 National Mountain Bike Series (NMBS).

There will be four different racing disciplines spread from Friday through Sunday: an off-road Time Trial, Cross Country, Super D, and an exciting Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce Downtown Short Track Race on Saturday evening. (To see a detailed schedule of the weekend's events go to www.mtbnationals.com and click on the link for the NOVA National presented by Bear Naked-Cannondale.)

Professional racers will be coming to the NOVA National presented by Bear Naked-Cannondale to earn the first NMBS points of the year in Super-D, Cross Country, and Short Track. Double points are on offer in Sunday's UCI C2 ranked Cross Country event as athletes will also be competing for Olympic selection points with an eye towards the goal on every pro's long list - selection for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Managing Director of the National Mountain Bike Series, Jeffery Frost said, ''Look for Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Jeremiah Bishop and the current US National Champion Ryan Trebon. Olympic hopefuls on the women's side include UCI points leaders Georgia Gould (current US National Champion) and Mary McConneloug - ranked #1 and #2 in the world.''

Amateur racers (Beginner, Sport, Expert, and Semi-Pro categories) will have the exciting opportunity to contest a stage race - an off-road Tour de France, if you will. Beginner and Sport racers will have a two-stage race consisting of the Time Trial and Cross Country races, while Expert and Semi-Pro racers will race those two events plus the Downtown Short Track Race for a total of three stages. The winner of each category's stage race will be the rider with the lowest cumulative time for all stages. Racers may choose to enter and race only the KENDA Cross Country event if they do not wish to contest the entire stage race. NMBS points will be given for each individual event, and will not depend on the stage race placing.

In addition to the racing action, former World Champion and two-time Olympian Alison Dunlap will be hosting hour-long mountain bike skills clinics at the NOVA National-presented by Bear Naked-Cannondale: at 3pm and 5pm on Friday, March 30, and at 10am and 12:30pm on Saturday, March 31.

Jeffery Frost is primed to set the 2007 National Mountain Bike Series rolling in Arizona, as he says, ''The National Mountain Bike Series is excited to return to Fountain Hills this year. Arizona is a major mountain bike destination - there is no better riding in the spring than in the desert terrain of McDowell Mountain Regional Park.'' There are over 50 miles of trails in the 21,000acre park in the Sonoran Desert with specific sections designated for beginner, difficult, and expert level riders. NMBS course designers have made use of these various sections to craft some excellent courses for Round 1 of the series. Fountain Hills is situated very close to the metropolitan centers of Scottsdale and Phoenix, and this makes access very easy for racers and spectators alike, and it's expected that a strong contingent of both will be out to witness the international pros compete at NMBS #1.
