SPEEDWAY, Indiana - The 2009 North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS), scheduled for Feb. 27 - Mar. 1, at the Indiana Convention Center, has opened up registration applications to qualified builders from the handmade bicycle industry.
The open registration period follows a highly successful 'early bird' period for existing exhibitors, which ended June 15. With 35 exhibitors already registered and at least 10 more expected to catch the end of the early bird discount by the end of the week, registrations are close to double the number seen at the same time last year. 152 companies exhibited at the 2008 show.
As a part of the new NAHBS strategy of allying with smaller, regional shows, newer, less-established builders will have the opportunity to display their craftsmanship at these regional shows before graduating to the national show.
"The point of NAHBS is to present the cream of the cream of bicycle builders. It's not just the handmade builders, but the more experienced of the handmade builders. The newest builders are well served by the regional shows in Oregon, Colorado and Southern California, which are more accessible to the newest frame builders," explained show director and founder, Don Walker.
Prospective exhibitors at NAHBS will be expected to have been in business for at least two years by the time of the show, have built at least 200 frames, and hold product liability insurance.
"For me the product liability insurance is critically important. We are looking to ensure that busineses are operating ethically, and carrying insurance is an ethical way of backing up your product and offering your customers additional protection," says Walker.
The 2009 NAHBS will offer 180 booth spaces; the same as the 2008 show. Interested builders are invited to contact Don Walker either by telephone at (317) 731-4040, or by email at donwalkercycles@aol.com. Online applications will be taken as of July 1 at www.handmadebicycleshow.com.
